Best Book Title, week 3: The Marshmallow Incident

Warning: I wrote this after doing extensive work on college applications, because I needed a creative and floofy writing outlet. This post is powered by Mountain Dew and may be slightly nonsensical.

Before reading: OH MY! THE MARSHMALLOW INCIDENT! That's quite a dramatic title! I wonder what it could possibly be about. The fact that there is a knight on the cover makes this book 200% more interesting. 100% because knights are awesome, 100% because they are totally out of context, what with the marshmallows and everything. Let's get started on this thing. Oh, wait. Be right back.

Great. Got my ice-cold can of Mountain Dew.
Let's read ourselves some picture book.
Ooh! I'm quite impressed with the art so far. And the idea of right vs. left has all kinds of political and classical implications, but this is a picture book, so I'll try to forget about that for now. Doesn't look hard, with the clever art to get lost in.
Here's the Knights! This is beginning to get good. And I love the roasting of the marshmallows. This story is downright WHIMSICAL. I think we've got a winner, but I'm only like 1/3 of the way through, so it's really too soon to tell.
THERE ARE FLYING (spoilers removed)!!!!!!
Ah, this is what we like in a good satisfying picture book. The really good ending, with peace and happiness and marshmallows.
I love how the art gives a whole new dimension to this story. You get to know the characters. With a children's story, there's so seldom a chance to make individual characters, but Ron Barrett manages in this delightful read. Judi Barrett has done a smashing job with the story, which gives us just the right amount of gooey marshmallowey sweetness for this story.
Also, I could paper my bedroom with those endpapers. And then I'd dream of marshmallows...
Because Judi Barrett is a Scholastic author, she's a bit hard to find info on, but here's the best bio of hers.
Have a great week! Keep it sweet!
And eat a marshmallow, preferably while reading this book.
Yours,
Carrie
